SAT circles practice questions

Circumference, area, arcs, sectors, and tangent lines, plus circle equations in the xy-plane, where you find the center and radius, sometimes by completing the square.

The usual trap

In (x − h)² + (y − k)² = r², the right side is the radius squared. The signs inside the parentheses are also the opposite of the center's coordinates.

Try three questions

Pick an answer to check it and see why. Practice sets also have grid-ins, where you type the answer.

  1. 01Question 1

    Easy

A circle has a diameter of 10. What is the circumference of the circle?

  2. 02Question 2

    Medium

In a circle of radius 6, an arc is intercepted by a central angle of 90°. What is the length of the arc?

  3. 03Question 3

    Hard

The blade of a windshield wiper lies along a straight arm that rotates about a pivot point. The blade extends from 10 centimeters to 50 centimeters from the pivot point. When the arm rotates through an angle of 3π/4 radians, the blade wipes a region bounded by two arcs centered at the pivot point and two segments along the arm. What is the area, in square centimeters, of the wiped region?
